On November 13, 2024, the Professional Ethics Committee for the State Bar of Texas circulated a draft opinion prohibiting a Texas lawyer from joining a District of Columbia law firm partnership that lawfully includes a nonlawyer partner. The public comment period closed on January 7, 2025, and it is reasonable to expect that the Texas Ethics Committee will move forward with a final opinion in line with the draft.
